Thank you for your continued support of myself, my family and Team BAM!
Each year we walk in the Donor Network West Run For Life walk. This specific walk/run brings awareness to organ and tissue donation. As many of you know, we lost our son Blake Anthony in March 2013. At the time of Blake's passing we were not very educated when it came to organ and tissue donation. We had many questions, fears, anxeities and unknowns. At one point I asked one of our very special nurses who had been with us for the week, what should we do? I was fully aware that she could not answer my question, but she simply replied with "Brandi, I have watched you for a week, cry, pray, hope and wish for a miracle, this is your chance to provide the miracle you have been hoping for to another mom in your position". After the conversation with our nurse I knew in my heart what we needed to, we would chose to have Blake be an organ and tissue donor.
While March 2, 2013 became the worst day of my life, it was the start to many others miracle. At 8 weeks, Blake was able to donate his kidneys to a gentlmen in California, his heart valves went to 3 other babies and the islet cells from his liver were able to help up 50 other babies born with liver concerns.
In the time that Blake has passed, I have become an amabssador for Donor Network West. I have shared Blake's story with hundreds of nurses, doctors, highschool students, teachers and anyone who will listen. I listen to others personal stories, whether they are a donor family member or a recieptant. I have created amazing friendships and bonds over my worst day and I will continue to do so.
